FULL TIME - Portimonense 0 Sunderland 1. It's a narrow win for the Black Cats as Carlos Edwards' goal proves enough. The hosts - and particularly Traore - had the better of the chances in the second period but couldn't convert, meaning Bruce makes it two wins out of two in friendlies. Full report to come.
2246 - We're in the final minute of normal time and there's a moment of real concern for the visiting fans. A shot from distance looks meat and drink for Carson before it takes a wicked deflection off Wilson - fortunately the visiting keeper manages to re-adjust in time and gathers well down low.
2232: Traore stings Carson's gloves with a shot from just inside the box.
2227: Portimonense should be level. A cross from the right isn't cleared and the wide-open Traore looks odds on to score before he scuffs his effort horribly wide. A let-off for the visitors.
2224 - A let-off for the Black Cats as substitute Traore ploughs his way across the edge of the box and rattles Carson's crossbar with a powerful effort. Fortunately the rebound is skied high and wide.
2217 - Boosted by the goal, Sunderland up their game and Ale has to be alert to claim a Reid cross after McCartney dropped in a 60-yard pass.
2215: GOAL - Portimonense 0 Sunderland 1. Anthony Stokes half-volleys a Healy feed towards goal and, although Ale gets a piece of the ball, it squirms from his grasp and lands at the feet of Carlos Edwards for an easy tap-in.
2207: Sunderland have the ball in the net - but it's ruled out for offside. David Healy's angled shot is parried by Ale, but Richardson was in an offside position as he slotted the rebound into an empty net.
2205: Nice awareness and turn from Richardson gives him time and space to shoot, but the Sunderland man is flagged offside and a promising move is cut short.
2203: Six changes for the visitors - Andy Reid, Anthony Stokes, Kieran Richardson, David Healy, Danny Collins and Carlos Edwards on, Martyn Waghorn, Nyron Nosworthy, Steed Malbranque, Jordan Henderson, Teemu Tainio and Daryl Murphy. We're underway once more.
SECOND HALF
2145: H/T - Goalless so far here in the Algarve. The heat in the stands hasn't been matched on the pitch, where to be fair the home side have been the more effective operators. The best chance of game went their way, while Sunderland have created several half-chances without forcing keeper Ale to make a save. We await the firing up of the sound system and Follow The Leader for the nth time. Back in a bit.
2142: Nothing. Nada. The action's mostly being played out in the midfield area, exacerbated by a string of niggly calls from the referee. Anton Ferdinand looks to be struggling a little with an ankle knock he picked up earlier. Steve Bruce will be taking a keen interest in him.
2134: Well, that was a real scare for Sunderland. Pires' flick from deep finds Bruninho breaking in behind Nyron Nosworthy, who turns away a relieved man when his marker goes for power rather than craft and fails miserably at both.
2130: The hosts' Aragoney creates a brief moment of danger on the break but his cross is too long for supporting team-mates and ends up brushing the roof of Carson's net.
2126: Best chance of the game so far and it goes to Sunderland. Steed Malbranque stands up a corner at the front post for Anton Ferdinand, who muscles his marker sideways and gets a touch only to see the header drop wide.
2124: That same sliding tackle has put paid to Portimonense's number 3, Calado, who stays down and is stretchered off after a short delay. Mailson leaves the legion of home substitutes to replace him.
2115: Leadbitter's low cross from the right falls just too short from the advancing Murphy, who would have been odds on to score. The tempo's picking up again, with neither side taking any prisoners at the moment. No end result though. Match officials are sporting Solero yellow outfits.
2106: The action's quietened down a little as the visitors adjust to the heat and a bouncy, patchy pitch. It'll be interesting to see what impact the surface has on proceedings.
2055: Just about to get underway here in Portugal. We're in a covered press box, so it's not the coolest. Let's just hope for a promising performance from the Lads. I'm going for Waghorn first scorer - the lad did everything but hit the net against Darlington.
2035: Welcome to Portugal and the Estadio Municipal de Portimao (hereby shortened to EMP). It's a muggy night in Portimao following a day of plus-30 degree temperatures. The players trained this morning under the watchful eye of Steve Bruce ahead of tonight's game against a Portimonense side who have managed to raise an impressive 14 substitutes. They've got some big names too - but presumably Pires, Adriano and even Traore are not the real deal. The EMP is a compact, typically European lower-league stadium, probably seating about 3-4,000. It also packs a school disco-style sound system which pumps out the very best in Euro-pop - including a very explicit version of Follow The Leader. Nice. At least 100 Sunderland fans are here so far, and even one individual who looks like a Newcastle fan. We can't see the logo on his shirt from up here, though, so I've dispatched my colleague to take a look up close. More on this breaking story as we have it.
